This only deepens the mystery ... a regular reader of this blog has passed along the picture included here, which makes clear that our Tech Store in fact uses the term. (Note that it doesn't seem to be the precise KIND of dongle under discussion yesterday.)Enough with the words, I say, on to structure!

Those dongles are certainly dead b/c nobody really uses PCMCIA cards anymore. That's still what most nerds from recent generations would think of as a dongle. The extension to the Mac version seems pretty straightforward to me, but maybe it's socially and/or regionally determined. This might be a job for the DARE folks...
