New York police and park rangers captured a coyote in Manhattan back in '99 and another one in '06 -- pretty surprising, considering it's an island, but bridges aren't just for cars any more. The illegal aliens were duly deported to wildlife conservation centers on the mainland.
(CAPTCHA is "ranger". Believe it -- or not!)
That is wild! We've got coyotes in the neighborhood these days, which is unusual in this part of Tucson, and the devastating part is that pet cats are being regularly killed by them.
Coyotes are ubiquitous up here, even in downtown Madison. Our in-the-city arboretum has turkeys, deer, etc. And of course it's not uncommon to see eagles if you keep an eye out for them. But a *wolf*.
A wolf was hit by a car and killed a few years back in Middleton. But if you check the local paper, I think this story is turning out to be a little less exciting.
