OK, I guess you might want a word for that ... vagazzle

As I was laughing at Doonesbury's latest on Palin (here — though that's just the general link, not the January 17 strip), I saw this "Say What?" note:

"I have a whole chapter in there on how women should vagazzle their vajayjays."
-- Jennifer Love Hewitt, on her new dating book

If you want to see the video, it's here. If you want to be reassured that Urban Dictionary is all over this topic, it's here. If you want to understand what this means culturally, I have no clue.

Kids these days. Not quite how I remember the dating scene.

I quite like the word 'vajayjay' as well.

Oh yeah, that got a bunch of commentary a year or so ago. Ben Zimmer talked about it, I think over on the Log.

I saw "vagazzle" in print before I viewed the clip, and was surprised to hear the word pronounced "vajazzle."

Yeah, and right next to vajayjay. Or should that be vagaygay?

Well, I really don't know what the cultural significance of this is, either, but the first speculation that crossed my mind was that it might have been inspired by an overly literal reading of the following stanza from Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise":

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Wow. I *never* expected a serious literary connection *here*! Thanks.
