How cool is it to be a linguist? A really key piece of software is available free and constantly updated and refined by its creators. Yup, Praat. 5.2 has just been released.The pink mouth with the thing below is it the icon. I thought for a time that the thing was a disconnected tongue but figure now it must be an ear. Maybe it's a cubist motif?

That's funny I've always seen the symbol as an ear with a funny pink thing above it.
Also, the verification word for this comment was "bilingen."

I've never understood why that icon doesn't get replaced. Even a redrawn mouth and ear would be fine. :) However, yay for a new version!

So I'm not the only one who's wondered constantly about this silly issues for years? I'm not sure whether I should be worried or relieved about that.

yeah, the icon is a puzzle. on the macupdates page for praat there's been a lot of discussion about it. there have even been some very nice icons designed and submitted, but rejected.
apparently, they want it as it is.
